Before You Start
You must be signed in to your account to enable MFA.
Required access:
Access to your own Profile
Access to the Security tab
Available MFA options:
Authenticator app
Passkey or biometrics
Security key
SMS
Before you begin, make sure you have the correct device ready for the option you want to use:
Authenticator app: your phone with an app such as Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy, or Auth0 Guardian
Passkey or biometrics: a supported device with Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a saved passkey
Security key: a hardware key connected by USB, NFC, or Bluetooth
SMS: a mobile phone that can receive text messages
Open Your Profile
Click your profile avatar in the app.
From the menu, select Profile.
Depending on your layout, your profile menu may appear in the top-right corner of the screen.
Open the Security Tab
On the Profile page, click the Security tab.
This page includes:
Sign-in Methods
Two-Factor Authentication
Recent Logins
Find the Two-Factor Authentication Section
Scroll to the Two-Factor Authentication section.
This section shows your MFA status and available setup options.
If MFA has been started but not fully set up, you may see the status Incomplete.
Choose Your MFA Method
In the Two-Factor Authentication section, choose how you want to verify future sign-ins.
You can start setting up by:
Clicking Set up authenticator app from the highlighted banner
Clicking Add next to one of the available methods:
Authenticator app
Passkey or biometrics
Security key
SMS
Start the Setup
After selecting a method, a setup modal appears.
Click Continue to begin.
A secure setup window or device prompt will open so you can complete enrolment.
Complete the Setup for Your Chosen Method
Follow the instructions for the method you selected.
Authenticator app
If you choose the Authenticator app:
Click Continue
A secure setup window opens
Select your preferred app option, such as:
Notification via the Auth0 Guardian app
Google Authenticator or similar
Follow the prompts to connect your app
Scan the QR code if prompted
Enter the six-digit code to confirm setup
Passkey or biometrics
If you choose Passkey or biometrics:
Click Continue
Follow the browser or device prompt
Confirm with your device’s supported method, such as:
Face ID
Touch ID
Windows Hello
a saved passkey
Complete the registration process
Security key
If you choose Security key:
Make sure your security key is connected or paired
Click Continue
Follow the prompt to register the key
Confirm the setup when asked
SMS
If you choose SMS:
Click Continue
Enter your mobile number if prompted
Wait for the text message
Enter the verification code to confirm setup
Confirm MFA Is Enabled
Once setup is complete, return to the Security page.
Check that at least one MFA method has been successfully added.
If the setup is still not finished, the page may continue to show Incomplete. Complete the enrolment steps to finish enabling MFA.
Important Notes
MFA adds extra protection by requiring a second verification step at sign-in.
You must complete the setup for at least one method for MFA to be fully enabled.
If the status shows Incomplete, MFA has not been fully set up yet.
Authenticator app, passkey, or biometrics, security key, and SMS are all supported options.
SMS rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier.
It is recommended to keep at least one MFA method enrolled at all times.
You can use Disable MFA later if you need to turn MFA off.
Troubleshooting
If you cannot see the Security tab:
Make sure you are signed in
Open Profile
Refresh the page and try again
If the secure setup window does not open:
Check whether your browser is blocking pop-ups
Allow the authentication window to open
Try again
If the page still shows Incomplete after setup:
Finish all steps in the secure setup flow
Return to the Security page
Refresh the page
Check whether the method was actually enrolled
If the QR code does not work:
Make sure your authenticator app is open
Try scanning the code again
Use a supported app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, or Auth0 Guardian
If your passkey or biometrics setup fails:
Check that your browser and device support passkeys or biometric sign-in
Try again on the same device
Make sure your device security settings are enabled
If your security key is not detected:
Plug the key in before clicking Continue
If using Bluetooth, confirm it is paired
Try a different USB port or reconnect the key
If you do not receive the SMS code:
Confirm your mobile number is correct
Wait a moment and try again
Check your signal and message settings
